WRR - Horchata

This Wednesday we're giving you a refreshing raw recipe, courtesy of Rawsiki for Gone Raw. This web page has hundreds of recipes published by the readers. I highly recommend it.

Ingredients

1 cup uncooked brown rice
1½ cup raisins
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 cup water

Preparation

* Grind up rice in food processor for 2 min. or till gritty.
* Pour in water and continue to mix.
* Add cinnamon and raisins to mixture and blend for 2-3 min.
* Cover and leave in fridge overnight or if you want the rice to get softer, leave in 2-3 nights.
* Transfer into food processor and blend till mixture is creamy (there will still be chunkiness from the rice).
* Place strainer over bowl and pour mixture into it.
* Help liquid thru by mixing it with a spoon as it sits in strainer.
* Chill and serve with ice.

K-Taylor listened to a street musician tuning his guitar to perform "I'm yours" on July 24th

On August 6th Cristina was updating her Hi5 social web page ewhen she heard "I'm yours" from a firends wall music player. Two days later, she was grocery shopping when she heard "The Remedy" playing in the background.

TrueBlood Fan raised her hands up to "Dynamo of Volition" at a friends' party on August 8th.

On August 9th Azucena was stuck in a traffic jam, though she was late for work, she didn't minda, as the people from the car beside hers were listening to "Luky" at full volume.

CurbsideProfetess simply turned her radio on and was fortunate enough to listen "Lucky" on her favorite station on August 11th.

WRR - Raw Chocolate Smoothie

The WRR is brought to you this week by CHOC Chick a great rawfoodist who simply loves chocolate. If you are as crazy for chocolate as she is, check out her web page, it has tons of cool tips and information raw chocoate. Thanx a lot CHOC Chic!

Ingredients

• 3 small or 2 large frozen bananas
• 3 tablespoons of raw cocoa powder
• 2 tablespoons of tahini paste or other nut butter (organic peanut butter is delish)
• 1 tablespoons of agave syrup
• 2 cups water or water mixed with soya milk or 2 cups of rice milk
• Handful of ice if making a smoothie

Directions

• Chop the bananas and place all ingredients in blender.
• Blend well adding the water/milk mix till smooth
• Pour into a plastic tub and freeze for about 2-3 hours, remove and let defrost for about 10 minutes, spoon onto bowls and serve with berries and summer fruits
• Or if you are impatient like us, pour into glasses and drink immediately!
• Makes 4 large CHOCsmoothies or a big tub of CHOCice Cream.

CHOCcreative Tip: Instead of throwing out over ripe bananas, wrap them in foil and pop them in the freezer, these will then make perfect frozen bananas for this recipe.

"Suerte" in iTunes Store Mexico

iTunes Store Mexico has been launched, allowing millions of users to purchase their favorite albums, songs and videos.

To celebrate this event, fans can download for free "Suerte" the Spanish version of Jason Mraz's "Lucky", featuring Mexican singer Ximena Sariñana.

Of course, there are also available to purchase the videos of "I'm yours", "Make it mine", "Geek in the pink", "The remedy", "You and I both" and the original version of "Lucky" featuring Colbie Caillat.

As for the albums, "We sing, we dance, we steal things" tops the buyers favorites, along with "Live & Acoustic" and "Tonight not again".

The Today Show

This morning Jason and the band performed on The Today Show as part of the Toyota Summer Concert Series at the Rockefeller Center Plaza.

After a brief introduction from Al Roker and Meredith Vieira, Jason performed "Make it mine", a great song to get the audience dancing and jumping around.

Before his second appearance, Meredith Vieira talked onstage with Jason about "We sing, we dance, we steal things", his new perspective on life after a well-deserved break from work, the joy that emanates from his songs and, of course, the tour. Fans got a refreshing dose of "The Remedy"; the band scored a perfect 10 with this "re-vamped" reggae version.

For an ideal closing, "I'm yours" sealed the message of love and freedom, sharing gratitude with people singing and dancing all around the place.

WRR - Raw Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

This week's WRR is courtesy of Simply Raw Recipes by Mike Lieberman. (All together now lets say: Thank you Mike)

You should check out his site. It has a lot of variety: recipes for desserts, dressings, salads and with or without a machine. It is so cool.

Raw Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Ingredients
•1/2 cup of tahini
•1 tablespoon of coconut oil
•1 teaspoon of agave nectar
•1 teaspoon of raw honey
•dash of sea salt
•dash of vanilla
•handful of cacao nibs

Approximate serving size
•Serves 1-2 people.

Machine use
•None

Directions

•Put tahini into bowl
•Add rest of ingredients except cacao nibs
•Stir until everything is well combined
•Sprinkle with cacao nibs
•It tastes best if you put in the fridge for an hour or two to firm up. That is if it makes it to the fridge.

If you enter "Mraz" on the YouTube search bar, you'll find hundreds, if not thousands, of videos about Jason. Since it is almost impossible to upload an official music video or a song from "We sing, we dance, we steal things", the majority are from radio or tv presentations and live performances recorded by fans in concerts.

Nonetheles, you can find real beauties; from presentations in a cafe seven years ago, a concert to go on a French street and a braadcast concert from another continent, to a feature in a parody tv show.

Our very first Wednesday's Raw Recipe is courtesy of Mayra, a Mexican rawfoodist and yoga practitioner (everybody now: Thank you Mayra!).

You'll love her blog Viviendo Raw (in Spanish).

Red sweet pepper and corn tortilla

3 raw corns
1 red sweet pepper
3/4 cup of crushed linseed
3 lemons
2 spoons of cumin seed
1/2 spoon of crushed chili (spicy!)
1/2 spoon of cayenne
1 1/2 teaspoon of salt

* Put all the ingredients in the food processor and blend it until you get a firm but malleable paste.

* Spread one cup of the paste on a washable, reusable and microporous teflex sheet (this recipe serves, approximately, three sheets) and take it to dehydrate for three hours.

* Check if you can easily remove the tortilla. If so, flip it over and without the teflex to dry de other side.

*It is really important that the paste doesn't dry too much, so that the tortillas can be handled without breaking them (unless you want some nachos).

*Finally cut the tortilla in the shape you prefer.

Live vs. Record

"We sing, we dance, we steal things" has my favorite songs, beginning with "Butterfly" and "The Dynamo of Volition". My biggest issue is the fact that the first time I got a chance to hear them was through Youtube, with videos of live performances. There was something really special about the way Jason performed in his Ovation TV episode.

Nonetheless, listening to the CD, it is almost impossible to overhear the outstanding differences between, for example, the DVD and the studio version of "If it kills me". There's a sense of hurry in the way the songs flow in the audio CD that I have never found (or noticed) in any other material of concerts that I have found in the internet.

The interesting thing is that all the songs in the album sound much better live. This preference includes, of course, the "Live High" feature in France, proving that it is not a matter of instrumentation.

There are two theories that dance in my mind, trying to explain the reason of this:

1. Performing live puts Jason in another level, surrounding him with an energy that pulls him out from the technicalities of a recording studio, freeing the core of the song.
2. The songs were written the way they were recorded, but have developed throughout gigs, tours, promotions and, of course, improvisations.

Having never actually been to a Mraz concert, it is difficult to say which I'd like better between listening to "We sing, we dance, we steal things" and a live experience. But I'm guessing that it would be the latter.

I'm all for song versions in another language. Though his accent is pretty strong, I adore listening "The beauty in ugly" in Spanish. I'm in love with Dramática Mujer and its introduction of sand and haciendas.

The same can't be said about "Suerte", the Spanish version of "Lucky". This single was originally recorded with Colbie Caillat. In this new edition, Jason has the voice of Ximena Sariñana featuring.

At first, I thought that the reason why I wasn't completely fond of this song was Ximena. I believed I hadn't forgave her yet for ruining my fascination of Jose Jose's "El triste" with her "hippy-sanborns*" interpretation.

However, I think that the song lost something really important in the translation: the word friend. "Lucky" has that touch that makes it almost universal with the phrase "Lucky I'm in love with my best friend".

In "Suerte", boy and girl are already together y celebrating how fortunate they are to be waking up next to each other. Suddenly, this couple is not as earthy as the one in "Lucky", a song that broke with that scheme that most of requited love songs fall in.

having listened to that song that helped me know about Jason Mraz.

At first, I must admit that I liked I'm yours because of its unique rhythm; never paying attention to the lyrics. I even thought, while watching the video for the first time, that this was a case of a snob kid with a catchy song that would not last very much. However, the more information I found about him, the more I discovered his true and extraordinary personality.

Now, not a day goes by that I don't check the Affirmation of the day in his Twitter, the blog posts in Freshness Factor Five Thousand (FFFT) and the updates in his Youtube channel.

Internet has become the perfect tool to keep in touch with Jason. Even through a computer screen or an entry in Facebook, it seems as if the distance between Mexico and California disappears.

Now, the only thing missing is going to a concert.

The sky is yours pretends nothing more than being an escape valve for an admirer of Jason Mraz's music and personality. It will be like a road trip across Hawaii, dancing to the rhythm of an ukulele and jumping from rocks to the crystal-clear water of a lake hidden in the mulch of this jungle that I call home.

Today I am grateful for your time.
